The Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain celebrated World Prematurity Day on Friday 17 November at Somerset Hospital by handing over a total of 303 hand-knitted baby caps, some of which were paired with booties to assist precious babies to give them a fighting chance at life.
World Prematurity Day, commemorated on 17 November creates a crucial platform to raise awareness about preterm birth challenges and their consequences, promote early detection during pregnancy, advance medical treatments, empower parents, and reduce long-term impacts on children and their families.
The Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain celebrated World Prematurity Day on Friday 17 November at Somerset Hospital by handing over a total of 303 hand-knitted baby caps, some of which were paired with booties to assist precious babies to give them a fighting chance at life.
The handover was accepted by Sister Magda Jacobs and Sister Rolene Wynand in the Neonatal Ward.
“A huge thank you to all our knitters and donors for all these beautiful hand knitted goods. A reminder that these newborns need the caps as they lose most of their body heat through their heads,” says Jean Jacobs of the club, who further thanked the club members who made the project possible.
