Kommetjie Main Road upgrades making steady progress

The upgrades on Kommetjie Main Road between the intersections of Capri Drive and Wood Road are making good progress, says the City of Cape Town.

The City of Cape Town says that upgrades to Kommetjie Main Road are going smoothly. The roadworks are now focused on the stretch between Capri Drive and Wood Road. These efforts are part of a larger plan to ease traffic in the area.

On Wednesday, 2 April, Rob Quintas visited the area. He is the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility. He came to check in on the progress. He said the team is making steady headway and that the improvements will help drivers in the long run.

The project is part of the City’s Transport System Management program. It aims to reduce congestion and improve safety along one of Kommetjie’s busiest routes. The upgrade includes dulling the road. This means an extra lane is being added. This addition will help traffic move more freely, especially during peak hours.

If all goes according to plan, the City expects to finish the project by the end of September 2025.

Over the coming months, residents and drivers can expect more work to be done. This includes moving trees, widening the road, and laying down new tar.

He added that cycle lanes and taxi stops are also being included in the design. The road widening will only start once all underground services like pipes and cables are relocated.

Quintas ended by thanking the public for their patience.

“These roadworks are a pain now,” he said, “but once we’re done, traffic will be better. The road will be smoother.”
