Kewtown couple Sheila and Kenneth Cheemee have reached a milestone not many can relate to.
Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday 31 January, the couple has spent a lifetime together.
Kenneth (77) and Sheila (78) met when they were teenagers and officially tied the knot in 1975.
“We were friends since teenagers, back then people had lots of children, so most of our sisters and brothers were friends too. My husband Kenny was a prominent soccer player back then and we would always attend soccer tournaments. That is when I fell in love with him,” says Sheila.
Sheila’s brother, Colin Cyster, described the couple as “a real example to us and their story of love, commitment, understanding and respect is an example to us all”.
Their secret to a happy marriage is placing God at the centre of it all and being open and honest with each other.
“Each marriage is unique, but we have shared responsibilities, trust and above all God’s love is our recipe,” they say.
The couple has been blessed with three children and now has six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
