She faced many hardships in life and being diagnosed with cancer a few years ago was probably her toughest battle yet. But Mona Angers never allowed life’s curve balls to deter her.

And with her first book titled A life of

Transcending Peace she hopes to encourage others facing similar challenges to do the same.

Angers, general manager at the Kensington Old Age Home, believes everyone has a story, she just decided to pen hers and share it with the world.

“Many people who listened to my story would get goosebumps and their first words would be, ‘you must write a book’.”

She explains that the book, launched on Saturday 31 May, describes her life and the difficulties she faced.

“I had a very troubled life, from growing up in poverty and struggling with ill health having come face to face with cancer twice and battling all kinds of struggle in my adult/family life.”

Angers believes writing the book was “a spiritual mandate”.

“I navigated through the loss of my sister who succumbed to aggressive cancer. It was a rough journey. But I believe that God preserved me for such a time.

“I stand but by the grace of God. Every time my life was in ruins and I faced hardship, God showed up and His peace would transcend, which was the evidence that God’s got me and that I would be okay.”

When asked what message she hopes to spread with this book, she simply says there is “purpose in pain and throwing in the towel is not an option”.

She says writing this book was a major accomplishment for her.

“It felt so unreal like I’m dreaming. The realisation that I’m an author is a privilege ordained by God only.

“I think it took me two months to write because my story was engraved in my heart and mind. I want to reach people in similar situations and hope that they draw strength and inspiration from my story.”
