Launched on Saturday 14 December, the first weekend of the Identikidz programme saw more than 14 000 children tagged on the city’s beaches.

An annual initiative by the City of Cape Town, Identikidz, is  coordinated by the their Community, Arts and Culture Development Department.

A total of 14 396 children were tagged across 15 beaches, resulting in eight lost children being reunited with their families in those first few days.

It is one of the most popular festive season safety interventions – last season 133 730 children were tagged over five priority weekends, with 302 children reunited with their loved ones, thanks to the programme.

Workers can be identified in orange at15 beaches throughout the priority weekends during the festive season from 09:00 to 18:30.

Staff at the Identikidz registration desks will register children and issue them with an identification tag/wrist band with the permission of parents or caretakers and assist with the reunification of a lost or displaced child.

Work closely with the provincial Department of Social Development, the City’s enforcement agencies and the police to ensure the safety and reunification of a lost or displaced child with their family.
