With the theme “women uplifting women” more than 300 women from Vrygrond and the surrounding areas gathered at Capricorn Primary School on Tuesday 9 August to celebrate Women’s Day.

The event was hosted by the Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development Foundation and aimed at honouring women and the opportunity for them to share their personal stories.

Kyle Cupido, project co-ordinator, said the day included special gifts and prizes including that of best dressed and best dance.

“A wonderful turnout of over 300 women from the community of Vrygrond and various other communities.

“It’s been almost three years since we had a programme on this scale due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, so it was a breath of fresh air and such a great feeling to be able to do this for the women once again this year.”

Cupido added that the day was all about celebrating and uplifting women in the community.

“We just celebrated women, we handed out gifts to each of the 300+ women who attended, we gave special prizes to best dress, best dance, for sharing personal stories, for encouraging the women and to our guest speakers as well.

“Our youth, sewing and beading women as well as international volunteers entertained the audience through dance, song and poetry to name a few.

“Our programme also featured present and past community leaders, principals and our seniors.

“We know that this was an event most of the ladies were looking forward to and ensured to get in as many sponsors to make it special.”
