Hollywoodbets raise the stake with Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association

The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) announced today that it will be partnering with a betting operator, Hollywoodbets, in a three-year deal.

The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) announced today that it will be partnering with a betting operator, Hollywoodbets, in a three-year deal.

The announcement was made at the Cape Town City Hall this afternoon.

In terms of the agreement, the annual and colourful street parade will now be known as the Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade.

The parade will take place on Monday 02 January. Minstrel troupes from across Cape Town will perform in the streets of the city centre between Hanover Street in District Six, and Rose Street in the Bo Kaap.

The sponsorship will include support for the Hollywoodbets Voorsmakie taking place on Saturday 17 December and five stadium events in January and February next year.

Muneeb Gambeno, Director of KKKA, says the sponsorship is a massive boost for the KKKA.

“This partnership puts the KKKA in a space where we can pivot the relationship to unlock opportunities hopefully, from driving and promoting the tradition to unlocking economic opportunities and developmental opportunities for both old and young.”

Gambeno says the troupes are looking forward to taking to the streets. He says about 20 troupes will be parading.

“People are excited and also anxious because they weren’t sure if this was going ahead. But now everyone can accept that we’ve done the hard work.”

Gambeno invites people to come and enjoy the traditional century-old event.

“The significance of this event forces you to come, you are not a Capetonian or a South African if you don’t come to the Kaapse Klopse on Tweede Nuwejaar. We work around the clock to put up the best, safest possible entertainment for people on that day and they should come to enjoy and revel in the festivities. From a historical perspective, they should celebrate this day of freedom that our ancestors enjoyed on this particular day.”

Devin Heffer, Hollywoodbets Brand and Communications Manager, says they are excited to partner with the KKKA.

“When you look at what the Kaapse Klopse present and what it brings to the City of Cape Town, it’s an incredible festival of happiness, energy, vibe and it’s something we at Hollywoodbets try to emanate all the time.”

He adds: “The Kaapse Klopse is also a community event it’s about bringing the communities of Cape Town and the Western Cape together to see in the new year but also to uplift the community. We are excited about what is to come.”

On Monday 2 January, entertainment starts with an opening ceremony, from 13:30 on the Grand Parade, and celebrations continue until 22:00.

All troupes are required to register with the Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade by 15 December 2022 and can contact Riyaad Peters at 082 807 8099.
