It’s all systems go for the HEROES Gala Concert that will be held at the Artscape on Wednesday 27 November.

The musical aims to raise awareness of child hunger and generate vital funds to support the Peninsula School Feeding Association’s (PSFA) mission of eradicating hunger in schools across the Western Cape.

This year’s concert, directed by Regina Malan, will once again feature internationally acclaimed opera and musical theatre singer, Lana English, and a diverse group of local talents.

Charles Grey, PSFA fundraising manager, says the generous support by the Artscape will add to the special celebration of this event.

“The cast members are now actively engaged in rehearsals, ensuring everything will be perfectly aligned for the performance.”

Grey says the concert is a heartfelt tribute to all the unsung heroes –volunteer food handlers, teachers, and principals – who play a vital role in supporting the schools on PSFA’s nutrition programme.

“These quiet champions ensure that vulnerable children receive the daily meals essential for their wellbeing and education.”

Line-up

Audiences can look forward to stirring and emotive performances from a stellar line-up, including English, Sian Atterbury, Loren Erasmus, Victor Siljeur, Faried Swartz, Moe-ain Daniels, the Pipes & Drummers of the Cape Town Highlanders, and the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town, among others.

“The programme will feature beloved classics such as “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie, Handel’s powerful Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah, “My African Dream,” “You Raise Me Up,” and “Go the Distance” from Disney’s Hercules, among other memorable pieces.”

Grey urged people to secure their seats by booking tickets.

“This concert offers the PSFA an invaluable platform to raise awareness about the pressing issue of child hunger in schools. It also presents a vital opportunity to secure much-needed funds to support the feeding of underprivileged schoolchildren, ensuring they receive the nourishment essential for their growth, health, and learning.”

Petrina Pakoe, Director of PSFA, expressed her gratitude to Artscape.

“We are deeply grateful to be the beneficiary of the HEROES II Gala Concert at Artscape.

“I encourage everyone to book their tickets, as each sale will support us in providing essential nutrition to impoverished school children, helping them to learn and thrive. Thank you for making a meaningful difference in their lives.”

Grey says on the night patrons can buy a raffle and stand a chance to win a three-night stay at Maison Montagne on the Dieu Donne Wine Estate in Franschhoek, including breakfast and wine tasting valued at R9 000.

All proceeds will support PSFA in providing meals to underprivileged schoolchildren.
