Mitchells Plain-based Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) Love and Hope are calling on support from locals in a bid to spread festive cheer this Christmas.
Founded last year by husband and wife team Lauren and Marco Pekeur, the organisation is calling on donations of goods for its “Adopt a Box” charity run, which will be handed over to more than 100 children in need on Christmas Day.
“This project was inspired by children in Macassar, who walked and attended school barefoot irrespective of the weather. Adopt a Box was launched on Friday 6 November. We will collect until Tuesday 24 December,” says Lauren.
“We hope to reach about 100 to 130 children on Christmas Day. The kids were identified during the time I was at work as I work for the government ambulance service in the area. We will be handing over our prepacked boxes to kids.”
The children are aged between 6 and 16. Locals wanting to assist can Adopt a Box and fill it with underwear, a toothbrush, facecloth, soap, toothpaste or any other toiletiries required for the children in the age group.
“We are also going to be giving the kids some food and have a box with some pre-loved teddies for each to grab one and love them,” says Lauren.
