The Athlone Community Policing Forum (CPF) is requesting public assistance in bringing relief and servicing the needs of seniors at the Erica House Frail Care Centre.
With the collection drive starting on Wednesday 1 May, the CPF is collecting adult diapers for the home in Silvertown until Saturday 15 June. CPF chair Sharon Claasen says they visited the home in April and were alerted to the dire needs of the seniors.
“The CPF visited the home just before Easter and handed Easter eggs to the seniors. Seeing the delight on their faces, we decided to treat them each with a box of luxuries. It was at this event that we engaged the seniors and management. We then learnt of the need for adult nappies, particularly now with winter coming up,” she says.
The CPF is also seeking to make outreach initiatives a quarterly event to bring comfort and relief to those who need support.
“Our senior citizens have contributed to society in many ways and need to be cared for in their twilight years.
“They have paved the way for us to be where we are today. We also require linen savers to protect the bedding from being soiled, wet wipes – essentially hygiene products for seniors.”
Anyone wanting to donate can drop off packs of adult diapers at the Athlone Police Station.
