A recently established community organisation is in need of funds to purchase a vehicle that can assist them in fulfilling their mandate.

The Imam Ebrahim Clayton (IEC) Foundation, founded by Yumna Clayton last year, will host a high tea on Sunday 29 May at Portlands Mosque Hall at 14:30.

Tickets will cost R100. This event will double up as a fundraiser and launch of the organisation.

The organisation is a registered non-profit company.

Event spokesperson Shaqeel Dareis says the organisation currently services the entire Mitchell’s Plain area including Philippi mosque and Heinz Park.

“We feed the less fortunate in our community,” he says.

“We started at the beginning of last year and we include areas like Heinz Park, Tafelsig, Lost City as well as the Philippi mosque where Imam Ebrahim Clayton was the Imam.”

Their goal is to raise R85 000 to purchase a bakkie. The bakkie will enable them to deliver food in bigger quantities to service the needs of the community.
