Youngsters could experience the wonder of the annual International Kite Festival in their backyards, as the pop-up community fly saw young children from the broader Athlone, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha join international kiters at the Heideveld Sports Grounds.

Young children from around the area were given colourful kites to take turns also flying.

Professional international kiters have again joined the Cape Mental Health’s annual kite festival.

On Wednesday 23 October, the event brought together local organisations, educares and preschools from Heideveld, as well as children with intellectual disability from Cape Mental Health’s Special Education and Care Centres in Heideveld, Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain.

This annual event aims to uplift less fortunate communities.

The 30th annual International Kite festival Pop-up fly took place in Melkbosstrand on Sunday 27 October.
