In his continued efforts to get and keep children playing and occupying open spaces, Bronwill de Bruyn and his wife, Lynn, along with partner organisations hosted a Come and Play event at Jersey Street Park in Westridge on Saturday 2 September.
“We want to spread safety awareness and also give all children the opportunity to just come together and play without the pressures of life’s daily challenges,” he says.
Around 180 children attended the event, each receiving a goodie pack.
“The Metro Police dog and horse show and a fire truck (were the main attractions) as our kids are never exposed to or educated about the safety structures that are fully available for them,” he says.
“The event was funded by donations from Hope Restoration Centre and the Duneside Neighbourhood Watch. The safety teams are always willing to assist me and volunteer their time,” he says.
The event was facilitated by the couple and Nazel Dlaminie.
“We engage the neighbourhood watches of every area to work in partnership with them to spread awareness to empower our youth. Our theme is ‘Let the kids play’,” says Bronwill.
His organisation, Chosen to Restore Hope, aims to engage the City for resources, such as Come and Play to enable them to fulfill this mission, while spreading safety awareness across the Cape Flats.
