Five suspects were arrested on the N2 outbound near Settlers Way earlier this morning (Thursday 8 September) following a high-speed chase with police.
The men aged between 21 and 47 years were involved in a business robbery at a camera store in Zonnebloem.
According to police, the suspects entered the store and threatened staff with firearms before they made off with cameras, a laptop and cellphones in a black Opel bakkie.
Traffic on the N2 came to an abrupt halt as a high-speed chase ensued involving police, law enforcement and the City’s traffic services.
Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg says the stolen property comprising electronic equipment, two firearms and the vehicle used to commit the offence were recovered on the secondary scene near Mowbray.
Twigg says: “The suspects face charges of business robbery, possession of the presumed stolen property and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and are due in to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates court once they have been charged.”
