UPDATE | Sixth person dies in shooting at a house in Ocean View in Cape Town

Police and emergency workers in Ocean View are attending to a scene where five people were killed, with another person injured in a shooting incident in Neptune Lane earlier today.


Police and emergency workers in Ocean View are attending to a scene where six men were killed in a shooting incident in Neptune Lane earlier today (Wednesday 12 April). 

Speaking from the scene, W.O. Louise Louw from Ocean View Police Station confirmed the shooting incident to People’s Post, adding that police are on the trail of one of the suspects.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says five men were confirmed dead when police arrived, with the sixth victim declared dead when on arrival at a nearby hospital and that the motive for a shooting incident is suspected to be gang-related. 

“Reports from the scene indicate that a vehicle pulled up in front of a house on Neptune Lane in Ocean View at approximately 10:50.  

“The occupants of the vehicle went inside the house and started shooting at individuals inside the premises.” Potelwa said, adding that the victims were aged between 20 and 50. 

“Five men between the ages of 20 and 50, as a result, were killed while a sixth person who was transported to a medical facility after sustaining gunshot wounds was confirmed as having died upon arrival in hospital.  

“Detectives from the provincial Anti-Gang unit are investigating six counts of murder.  

“The motive for the shooting is suspected to be gang-related with no arrests effected yet.”
