Inspired by a book to help animals in need, a teenager from Noordhoek is doing his part to build kennels for dogs in Ocean View.
Joshua Clarke (15), a learner at Fish Hoek High School and resident of San Michel in Noordhoek, reached out to the community, on social media, to assist with his passion project.
“I have a passion for animals and I’m reaching out to my community to make a difference for our furry friends in Ocean View.”

Inspired by the book Shine a Light by Corrine Wilson in conservation with Ingrid De Storie, who founded non profit organisation (NPO) 1 Kennel at a time, the teenager hopes to improve the living conditions of animals by building wooden kennels.
“I’m building wooden dog kennels to improve the living conditions of dogs in Ocean View,” says Clarke. “This project is important to me because I believe every dog deserves a warm and secure place to rest.”
He adds that while 1 Kennel at a time does great work, he will be focusing on providing kennels for the community.
Every day
Any donations and proceeds contributed towards the initiative goes directly into purchasing raw materials such as wood planks, nails, insulation and blankets for the kennels.
The Grade 9 learner tells the People’s Post that he has already donated seven kennels in less than a month.
“I work on the kennels every day and sometimes my dad helps me.”
Meanwhile, in a social media post, Wilson thanked the teenager for assisting.
“Thanks to Joshua, Blue and Jake have a kennel to call home,” she commented. “If you have wood, nails, varnish or anything to donate towards building a kennel, please contact Joshua directly, thanks again Joshua…the kennels are looking great!”
