Members of the Wolfgat Social Fitness Club in Ward 82 in Tafelsig are not concerned about the extra pounds put on over the festive season or New Year’s resolutions for 2023 to be fit.

They are just continuing from where they left off before the Christmas break and are back at the gym.

“We train four times a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 to 10:00. These classes motivate our community to a healthier lifestyle and I move between the different senior clubs to give them a workout at their clubs,” says Patricia Williams, instructor.

The club is in the Wolfgat Nature Reserve is a social club and also allows the seniors to go on excursions to explore the different plant types in the reserve.

A gym session in earnest by the women to try to lose the extra pounds added on over the festive season.

Other outings include going on hikes at different hiking trails.

The members include men and women of all ages and socialising after a workout is what every member is looking forward to.

“During the school holidays, we had children who joined as part of a holiday programme and they have their gym classes. As the instructor, I must adjust the music and the exercises to their age groups, as most of them are hyper-active. The music must be upbeat and I have my work cut out for me with them to keep up with their energy,” Williams chuckles.

With the classes for the children, she believes she teaches them the value of a healthy lifestyle.

“Besides being the instructor, I am also the chair of the Wolfgat Social Fitness Club, a community fitness club. Our vision for the community of Tafelsig is to bring fitness and well-being to every resident who would like to join the club in achieving that goal. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life within our community through our fitness philosophy and programmes we run. The goal is also to instill the value of health and fitness in everyone,” she says.
