The Golden Girls, a group of community workers in Tafelsig, hosted a ‘Broken but not shattered’ Women’s Day event at the Monwabisi Resort.
A group of 73 women attended the weekend-long event from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 August, with a special performance by local songstress, Vicky Sampson on Saturday.
Umir Morris from Kinders van Die Ses also performed. The women were also treated to a zumba lesson by local instructor Bevil Lakay.
The women were also able to enjoy the beach, a Friday and Sunday service and African queen gala event.
“Women were able to lay down their abuse and things that have been hindering them for years. They could ask for help. we had a fulfilling weekend and we can say we really made a difference,” says Ursula Peters of the Golden Girls.
At the centre of their outreach is children and the elderly. This event was part of their ongoing community work.
The Golden Girls will host their next event on Saturday 20 August at the Tafelsig Community Hall from 13:00.
The event will be a glamourous granny modelling competition. Women 50 years and older are welcome to enter at R20 each.
A door fee of R10 applies for spectators and children under 13 pay R5.
Prizes are up for grabs and refreshments will be on sale.
