Not all mothers are spoiled and treated well on Mother’s Day.
This was the motivation behind a community initiative by Gabieba Rademeyer of the Woodlands Women’s Support Group who treated mothers and grandmothers from the broader Mitchell’s Plain area to a brunch and pamper day on Saturday 7 May.
Held at the mosque in Mitchell Avenue, Woodlands, the event catered for around 50 mothers.
“Not all mothers are treated well by their children and not everyone gets spoilt on Mother’s Day. I wanted to make sure that the mothers had a special day and felt special,” says Rademeyer.
Partnering with other community workers to identify the beneficiaries, Rademeyer says there were also frail and disabled women included in the celebration.
Her hope is to one day reach out to communities outside the area, with a special spot for residents in old-aged homes, shelters and orphanages.
