The Eleanor Murray Residence, an old age home based in Woodstock, is in desperate need of a hospital bed for its frail residents.

Denise Vigus, administrator at the home, said: “When one of our residents becomes ill, we need a bed like this so that they can sit up and not fall out of bed. We have a case like that right now.

“One of our residents is in hospital and when she comes home to Eleanor Murray, she will need a hospital bed as she will be frail.”

Vigus explained that they only have one bed. “The bed that we have currently does not have side railings for a frail patient. And that one is being used by another resident now.

“So, when the resident returns from hospital we don’t have an extra bed.”

She says while they are not a frail care facility, they want to assist all residents in their care.

“We don’t want to send our frail residents away. We want to accommodate them but we unfortunately don’t have the resources. The bed must have side railings and it must be adjustable so that the patient can sit up straight.”

Vigus explains that a new bed costs between R10 000 and R40 000.

“They are so very expensive to purchase or to hire. We are in desperate need of a hospital bed. If someone can donate a bed that would be a great help.”
