- A 20-year-old man and his 56-year-old mother were arrested after police discovered a drug storage depot with Mandrax tablets in Overcome Heights.
- The arrests followed a tip-off received by the Muizenberg Crime Prevention Unit, leading to a successful raid.
- Additionally, an off-duty law enforcement officer apprehended a suspect involved in robbing an e-hailing driver on Prince George Drive.
A 20-year-old man and his 56-year-old mother, were arrested after police discovered a drug storage depot at a premises in Overcome Heights last week.
According to Muizenberg Police spokesperson Capt Stephen Knapp, officers received a tip-off, which led to the arrests on Tuesday 13 August.
“On Tuesday, members of the Muizenberg Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), under the command of Sgt Mbongeleni Radebe, responded to a tip-off about a possible drug storage depot in their midst.”
Knapp added that officers approached the residence in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights, where they discovered 60 Mandrax tablets after a thorough search.
Muizenberg Police Station commander Col Jacqui Johnson warns that anyone found in the possession of drugs will feel the full might of the law.
“Muizenberg Police (are) extremely happy with the drug arrests, as it was initiated after information was received from members of the community,” she said. “Anyone found in possession of drugs must be prepared to face the consequences.”
E-hailing driver robbed
Meanwhile on Monday 12 August, an off-duty Law Enforcement officer, travelling on Prince George Drive, arrested a suspect from Vrygrond for allegedly robbing a e-hailing driver.
According to Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith, officers noticed an altercation on the side of the road and when they stopped the suspects ran away.
“Two assailants fled and the officers gave chase,” he said. “Apprehending one suspect, a large knife was found in his possession.”
An e-hailing driver at the scene told officers that he was allegedly robbed of his cellphone and day’s earnings.
“The suspect, residing in Vrygrond, was placed under arrest and handed over to Muizenberg Police.”
On the same day, in a separate incident, another e-hailing driver was allegedly hijacked in Zeekoevlei.
“The e-hailing driver informed law enforcement he had just been hijacked,” said Smith. “Officers tracked the vehicle to Kirstenhof, only to find that the vehicle had been abandoned.”
