Members of the Creative Caring Seniors in Tafelsig celebrated their end-of-year function on Monday 28 November with a denim & diamond theme.
The club is 29 years old and annually they have a different theme.
They not only dress up according to the theme but the decorations must complement the theme as well.
Currently, the club consists of 19 members and Laeticia Booysen, chair, started the club because she is an orphan
“I love working with the senior citizens and they are all mothers to me as I’ve lost my mother. I have a passion for the elderly and now that I am retired I do have lots of time to share with them. At our club, I teach them different crafts and most of them are at the club to be away from the stress at home.”
The handcraft consists of knitting, doing needlework and using wool to make items. The wool is sometimes used with recycled items like bottles and old CDs.
“During the year we have exhibitions of all the items we made at a certain time of the year and we sell it as an extra income besides our government grants,” Booysen says.
At the end-of-year function, everyone was dressed in denim and white and the tables were laid out with lots of glitterati and this was repeated in the decoration of the room where the event was held.
Shoes in all shapes and sizes with glitz and other decorations in line with their theme made the event very special. The day was ended with a braai.
