The Deen Louw Foundation is hosting a second fundraiser on Sunday 29 June in the Utopia Cafe and Lounge in Ottery to raise money for a fully equipped kitchen trailer to feed more people.

The Foundation was established in 1992 to feed mainly people in Mitchells Plain and the surrounding areas, but Louw’s dream is to go outside of Cape Town where the need is even greater.

“The first event held at the same venue on Saturday 31 May did not generate enough money, we need R50 000 to purchase the equipment to build a fully equipped kitchen and I am hosting the second one to see if we can make up the deficit. Artists who will be performing include Theo Watt, Carmen Xclusive, Richard Caesar and Lady Holly.

“Tickets are R100 per person and parking is free,” says Louw.

“If we don’t make the target we will host another event until we have the full amount. When we have the trailer and it is fully stocked we will be on the road to reach out to communities in the rural areas. With the cold weather we are currently experiencing the need is bigger and we hope sponsors will come on board to give donations of non-perishable food items. If you intend to support our second event we ask you kindly to bring along non-perishable food items.

“The decision to go outside of Cape Town came from requests to go up country, but due to logistical issues and not having the food trailer yet, we had to put the outreach on hold.
The foundation is still feeding in Mitchells Plain and surrounding areas for now, but we hope to do the road trip after the second event,” he says.
