One person was killed and a two-year-old seriously injured following a crash on the M3 near Tokai during Friday, peak-hour traffic.

The City of Cape of Cape Town’s safety and security sent out a statement just before 14:00, informing motorists of an accident on the M3 inbound between Firgrove Bridge and Ladies Mile.

According to the City, a truck with a trailer was travelling on the M3 outbound when its tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and move into the M3 inbound, colliding with three cars.

The truck also lost its load of bricks.

A man (38) was declared dead on the scene and a two-year-old “with serious injuries” was transported to the hospital.

Two other men were left slightly injured.

By 15:00, the M3 towards Cape Town was still closed between Tokai Road and Ladies Mile Road.
