After more than a century of being a beacon of education serving the youth at Constantia Primary School, the school came full circle since its establishment in the community by introducing a school song.

“It was a major achievement for our school and the community of learners and parents that have been a part of Constantia Primary School for 113 years,” announced the school’s Acting Deputy Principal Nicole Frank.

Constantia primary was established in 1910 with 26 learners.

“After 113 years in Cape Town the school along with its music head, Christopher Siljeur, launched their very first school song on (Saturday) 5 August.”

Frank said it was a commemorative event as the staff and choir members belted out their beautiful anthem that spoke of inspiration and growth. The song encompassed the message that expressively says “Constantia! Aim High Altus!”

The event was opened with a prayer and a welcome was done by the school’s principal Alastair Adams, who was immensely proud of his staff and the learners.

Adams started at the school in 2019.

In his speech, he said: “As society has grappled with unprecedented challenges, you would be forgiven if your faith in the future has, at times, been shaken. Well, today we are here to dispel any doubts, and to share with you through the story of our journey the ingenuity, talent and dedication of this fine generation of young people.”

The school believes its anthem brings hope and pride to Constantia Primary which was displayed on the day of its debut, Saturday 5 August.

Frank attested to the music that burst through the doors of Cape Academy, where the event was held.

“The Masikhule Orchestra in attendance and conducting the school song debut was captivating.

“Their talent was unparalleled. The staff was acknowledged through a beautiful rendition of ‘Heres to the heroes’ which was rearranged and composed by Welsey Petersen.”

In closing, Adams paid tribute in that Constantia Primary prides itself in providing quality teaching and learning for learners, “however, we emphasise holistic development for all our learners. We aim to provide a place where learners may use their talents in music and sport.

“The launch of our school song was an auspicious event as it reflected on the success of Constantia Primary, its staff and learners. I am immensely proud of team Constantia.”
