Getting a Covid-19 test comes with a lot of anxiety for many. Firstly, its the procedure, the distance to travel, the wait for the test result, but also the high price for getting tested at a private facility.
But in Mitchell’s Plain, there is now an option to be tested in the safety of your home, thanks to an initiative by the Mark Jeneker Foundation.
Founder, Mark Jeneker has completed training with a local laboratory in September.
“I have been busy for the entire holiday period with testing,” says Jeneker. “Many of our people don’t have a way to get to the test centres and they don’t have money to pay for the test, that’s why I charge only R300.”
This is the cost of the test which is Sahpra approved.
Jeneker says after seeing the need in the community for this mobile service, he approached medical research company Epicenter for the training on how to perform the test.
He completed the ICH good clinical practice training offered by the Global Health Network with 94%.
“This is a service to the community who get results within 15 minutes in the comfort of their own home, office etc and at half the price.
“I get my test kits (supplies) from an accredited company and all positive results are sent to Epicentre,” he says.
