Vumatel has installed a free-fibre connection at Cornflower Primary School following a letter from member of provincial parliament, Ricardo Mackenzie.

The internet was installed on Friday 11 March after the request was made last year.

“They started at the beginning of the year and finalised installation today,” Mackenzie said. “This is very important for our Lentegeur Neighbourhood Watch operating from Cornflower Primary School.

“These eyes and ears of our community can now access their whatsApp and other services for free in reporting crime. Action Society’s Ian Cameron who has been working with the neighbourhood watches and also last year donated torches to the Lentegeur Community Policing Forum will now work to get safety apps for the neighbourhood watches on their phones so that they can report crime and start developing a trend and help in preventing crime in Mitchell’s Plain.”

This pilot project will be closely monitored by Ward 76 councillor Avron Plaatjies, Mackenzie and Cameron.

“Once successful, the opportunities in dealing with crime and crime prevention is endless. I want to thank Vumatel (Mitchells Fibre) for this wonderful gesture and hope we can roll out to other areas in Mitchells Plain as well.”
