Hamediehs from Athlone were crowned winners of the Promotion League of Western Province on Saturday 1 October when they beat Northerns by 38-26 in Athlone.
Northerns ended the campaign with the wooden spoon and will have to try again next year.
Violets from Lansdowne will be in action in the playoff against Masiphumelele on Saturday 8 October at City Park for a place in Super League C next year.
Hamediehs and Van der Stel-Evergreens already qualified for Super League C after finishing first and second on the log.
Masiphumelele was the only team who beat Hamediehs and slowly but surely crawled their way up the log to finish third and qualify for the playoff.
Masiphumelele travelled to Atlantis and beat the home team by 48-27.
Before Saturday, Blakes from Stellenbosch, Sir Lowrians from Sir Lowrys Pass and Violets were all lying on 19 points – only one of them could qualify for the playoff against Masiphumelele.
Violets had a better chance of qualifying because of the points difference and it played out like this on Saturday.
Blakes from Stellenbosch beat Sir Lowrians by 27-23 in Stellenbosch but the point difference was too insignificant and Violets marched to the playoff.
Van der Stel-Evergreens had a bye.
The format this year was that the two top teams on the log would automatically qualify for promotion to Super League C and teams in position three and four would compete in the playoff to determine the third team to join teams one and two next year.
The three teams in the last three positions in Super League C would drop automatically to the play next year in either the Northern, Southern or City League.
The three teams are Strand United, Raithby-Universals and Elsies River United.
The results of Saturday 1 October are:
Violets 36 Lagunya 28
Masi 48 Atlantis 27
Hamediehs 38 Northerns 26
Blakes 27 Sir Lowrians 23
