Teenagers congregated at Plumstead Library on Saturday 29 October for the launch of “New Generation”, the latest edition to the many clubs that meet at the premises located in Shop 20, Village Square.

Jean Pappas, Senior Librarian at the library, says they have been wanting to establish a club for teenagers even before Covid-19 struck, but the time was not right.

“We have groups for the older patrons, for example, scrabble, knitting and reading, but not for teens.

After the teen section in the library was rearranged, we decided to redouble our efforts to get them into the library to read all the wonderful books we stock,” says Pappas.

Armed with her dynamic personality and penchant for hard work, librarian Vuyokazi Cungwa Lose got the ball rolling.

A poster was put up, inviting local teenagers to the library on the Saturday.

Pappas says there are currently 10 members, ages ranging from 10 to 17, in the club. Activities so far suggested by the group are music events, book discussions and movie viewings, among others.

  • Teens who would like to join the club can call Lose on 021 814 1231.
