At the Athlone Police Station a proud sapling is growing in commemoration of child rights.
The tree planting ceremony was held at the Athlone Police Station on Wednesday 19 June. The ceremony was attended by staff and 20 children from Leliebloem House.
The tree was donated by a captain stationed at Athlone.
Sgt Zita Norman, Athlone Police Station spokesperson, says the children spent an informative morning at the station.
“The children were invited as they were educated on children’s rights. They also took a tour of the police station and its structures, building a relationship with children and police,” she says.
Leliebloem House, located in Crawford, is a residential Children’s home for 60 children from troubled families and backgrounds. These children range in age from four to 18.
They each received treats after the planting ceremony.
The station management would further welcome any additional donations of plant or flowers for this garden.
