The two-day workshops are designed to encourage families to spend quality time with their mothers while creating handmade purses and gift cards for them.
According to marketer Olivia Cammell, visitors won’t be charged to attend the workshops which are being held at Longbeach Mall.
“The two free creative workshops are hosted by local artisan Gail Wade of Stitch Forward Creative Studio.
“The first workshop, ‘In Stitches & With Mum’, takes place on Friday 9 May. Participants will learn to make a simple purse, with two sessions offered at 10:00 and 11:30. Each is limited to six participants, allowing for hands-on support and a relaxed environment.”
The second workshop, “Craft an Embroidered Card”, starts at 10:00 and 11:30, each session has space for 10 participants.
“We were inspired to think outside of the box; instead of just handing mom a card and gift, you could have an experience with her that results in the same thing.
“Gail will supply all the materials needed, and participants simply need to book their spot by sending a direct message to the Longbeach Mall Facebook or Instagram page. Participants are welcome to bring their children or even a friend to join in.”
Wade said she’d always had a love for crafts and design ever since she was a child designing Barbie-doll clothes.
“My background is actually in kitchen design and installation, but sewing has always been my true creative passion, the thing I return to again and again. I enjoy dreaming of beautiful things to make, especially with fabric.
“I have a deep appreciation for design and art in all forms, and I get really excited about ideas of blending different creative styles and techniques.”
She also runs sewing workshops.
“Some visitors come in wanting to make their first tote bag, while others want to trace a favourite pair of pants and remake them, or learn how to sew a dress from a paper pattern.
“As we work through their projects they’re also learning practical sewing skills they can carry forward and grow.”
Booking for the workshops is essential due to limited space.
