False Bay Hospital bade a fond farewell to nursing assistant Nomzamo Mngupane during a surprise celebration on Thursday 19 October.
After 14 years at the hospital, Mngupane (48) is leaving Cape Town to take up a post in the Eastern Cape.
“I’m going to miss my patients and colleagues of nurses, doctors and receptionist. We worked together very nicely with everyone and our communication was really good.”
The mother of two, who hails from Butterworth, moved back to her home town to be closer to her family.
“I am back with my two children a 26-year-old and 16-year-old.”
Nursing also runs in the family as Mngupane’s eldest daughter is currently employed as a nurse at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
“To take care of patients and to help the community is why I love my job.
“At False Bay Hospital I worked mostly with outpatients, those who had appointment and those without, so it was the clinic’s side of the hospital where I had a chance to observe patients as they walked in to see who needed to be fast tracked for urgent care. All of us (nurses and doctors) can help someone and that’s what I love about this job.”
She adds that it was sad and emotional to say farewell to her colleagues.
“I enjoyed working at the hospital and gained a lot of experience which I will now take with me to the Eastern Cape.”
