A Capricorn couple was seeking the public’s help in their search for their 12-year-old son who had been reported missing three days before.
Young Siphelo Daniso, from Overcome Heights, was reported missing by his parents, Mario and Moeniefa, on Monday 14 July. He was last seen in Xakabantu, near Vrygrond, on Sunday the 13th wearing a grey cap, light-blue top, thong flip-flops and a blue pullover sweater.
People’s Post spoke to Mymoena Scholtz, Director of Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development Foundation (WRMTDF), who circulated a missing person’s poster through WRMTDF’s Facebook page on Monday to draw attention to the desperate search for Daniso, after his mother had visited its premises seeking help in spreading the word of her son gone missing.
“The parents are beside themselves,” she said, “they do not know what to do and where to look. When the mom came to our office Daniso was already gone for two days, and we enquired about any developments arising from reporting him missing to the police, but she expressed disappointment. The support was not what she had hoped for, so we contacted Hedie Goodman of the Muizenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF), who jumped in in support. By then the mom had not yet received her case number, as the case had not been captured and identified as high-priority. I think what is happening with children is extremely concerning for us; to seek any child, hoping that no harm will come to them, is significant in itself.”
According to Scholtz, Daniso was reportedly seen roaming in Muizenberg on Tuesday the 15th, according to some residents.
“We drove the family around Muizenberg all afternoon that Tuesday to look for him, but there’s still no visible sign of him. The parents are distraught, but we have encouraged them to remain hopeful and optimistic that he will be found unharmed. Their main concerns are that he is eating and he has shelter where is can sleep, aside from his safety. Too many children take to the streets for unknown reasons and we appeal to parents not to keep or shelter other people’s children within their homes, as searching for a child is a parent’s worst nightmare.”
People’s Post tried contacting Mario and Moeniefa for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
