Two Cape Town artists and the producer are featuring on the track of the international Hip-Hop legend The Game from Compton in California, United States of America (USA).
Nate Johnson and illRow are from Mandalay and yzdsl (producer) is from Elsies River.
“Johnson and illRow are not only into RnB but also into Hip-Hop, Afro-Pop and reggae and Johnson’s music is influenced by Nate Dogg and Usher. IllRow is influenced by Tupac, TI and 50 Cent,” says Brandon Titus, spokesperson for the Capetonians.
Brandon Herschell Titus (27), better known by his stage name illRow, is a record producer, sound engineer, and Hip-Hop Musician.
In 2012, he formed a movement called Unite The Mic (UTM), which was officially registered as a record label and talent management company in 2016 with childhood friends Wanda Booi (Supreme DJ) and Tumelo Motse (Pisteuo).
In 2019, a new business plan for Unite The Mic was formed with singer/songwriter Sanelisiwe Mateta (Sane) and the company was officially registered as a music publisher (2019 until 2020).
Around the same time illRow and Sane formed a new company catering to visual needs within the media industry called SOW Productions. Now illRow has ventured on a solo journey, starting a brand new movement/aspiring record label, called “Medical Records”.
Nathan Conway Johnson (30), better known by his stage name Nate Johnson, is an Rnb/Hip-Hop vocalist.
In 2019, he made a life decision to finally take the leap of following his dream of pursuing a career in the music industry, after spending years of his life in and around the streets of the Cape Flats where he got most of his inspiration from. He also approached illRow, with whom he grew up.
Johnson started his music career in 2019, while illRow his in 2013 and The Game in 2000.
He created his first song, has released a body of work with a few singles, all under the label Medical Records, of which he and illRow have equal invested shares.
Currently illRow has 52 singles, nine EPs, 41 music videos and one studio album.
Nate Johnson has seven singles, four music videos and one EP, while The Game has 31 singles, 15 mixtapes, 39 music videos and ten studio albums.
Jayceon Terrell Taylor (43), better known by his stage name the Game or simply Game, is an American rapper.
Born in Compton, California, he initially released a series of mixtapes under the wing of fellow West Coast rapper JT the Bigga Figga.
After releasing his debut independent album Untold Story in 2004, he was eventually discovered by record producer Dr Dre and signed to his Aftermath Records label imprint.
The Game rose to fame in 2005 with the success of his major-label debut album The Documentary and found continued success with the 2006 follow-up Doctor’s Advocate. The Recording Industry Association of America certified the documentary Double Platinum in 2005.
“When they are not making music, they like travelling, shooting films or music videos and entrepreneurship. They hope to work on an album or single with Burna Boy,” says Titus.
