A new ward councillor is on the cards for Ward 64 this year.

Last week Ward 64 councillor Aimee Kuhl confirmed she will be stepping down to pursue a new career.

In a social media post, Kuhl said it was a privilege to work along active citizens and diligent officials.

“After seven eventful and exciting years, I will be resigning as the ward councillor at the end of February 2024.

“I thank all of you for doing your part in making this ward the beautiful place that it is. My family and I will be moving to KZN to start a new chapter in our lives. We wish all of you the very best for 2024.”

Kuhl tells People’s Post that she will be heading back to the education sector.

“I am resigning as councillor because I am returning to the education sector where I originally came from. I’ve got degrees in education and development studies.”

She thanked all individuals and organisations she worked alongside during her seven-year tenure.

“Throughout my time in office, I have had the great privilege of working alongside many active citizens and diligent officials.

“I am very grateful for the work that they do in the areas of crime and grime and beautifying the ward. I want to send out a big thanks to the improvement district of my ward, the Business Improvement District of Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and St James SRA (Special Rated Area) as well as the Muizenberg Improvement District.”

During her tenure, Kuhl says she was grateful to also make a difference in security and environmental projects.

“I am very grateful that I could use ward allocations for security and environmental projects such as a vehicle for our Law Enforcement volunteers, specialised equipment for water quality in Zandvlei and the upgrade of the bathing boxes at St James tidal pool.”

A new ward councillor is expected to be elected once the IEC proclaims a by-election, she adds.

“The people/ constituency of a ward will then vote for their new ward councillor.

“During the transition, before a new councillor is elected, my ward assistant will meanwhile be available for any communication.”
