CAPE TOWN-A group of Steenberg residents received their title deeds on Tuesday 14 October.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Mayco member for Human Settlements Carl Pophaim held the event in Steenberg to hand over title deeds to residents as part of the Mayor’s Service Blitz initiative, which aims to take a range of services to residents in areas across the metro.
“Mayor Hill-Lewis and I speak often about our shared goal of creating more homeowners in Cape Town,” Pophaim said. “We are proud to invest more than R20 million to fund the transfer of properties to qualifying residents. This is the biggest municipal commitment in South Africa to ensure security and opportunities for families. We have already delivered more than 7 000 deeds to residents as part of this initiative.
A title deed is a gateway to financial prosperity and security of tenure. We are ramping up our efforts and will soon take our new, improved Human Settlements bus to areas across the city, to bring services closer to communities and to take our Title-Deed-to-Door programme directly to our residents. We are receiving more and more deeds through our team’s hard work and residents can contact us on 021 444 0333 to get their deed.”
