  • Table Mountain Cableway has reopened after a temporary closure due to a fire in the parking garage.
  • Although the fire caused concern, no damage occurred to the machinery, allowing operations to resume safely.
  • Ticket holders have options to reschedule their visits or request refunds, while October birthday ticket redemptions are extended to November.

Operations at the cableway resume today following a fire that broke out in the parking garage at the lower station last week.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) said all outlets, retail and food and beverage, will also reopen.  Wahida Parker, managing director of TMACC, said safety experts had worked over the weekend to investigate the fire.

“We can confirm that the flames and heat did not reach the machinery operating the movement of our cable cars,” she said, “and we can now safely resume operations.”Parker said people who had bought tickets had a window period in which to use those tickets or they could request a refund.

According to Parker anyone who celebrated their birthday in October will be able to redeem their free birthday ticket in November.“We thank the public for their support and understanding,” she said.

“We again thank the many agencies and partners who helped on Thursday to bring the fire under control and to bring all 400 visitors down the mountain safely.”
