Three armed robberies occurred on Boyes Drive in the space of four days.
Muizenberg Police Acting Station Commander Lt Col Maggie Rossouw said there had been a spike in crime in recent weeks.
“There has been an increase in crime recently, but Muizenberg police is working tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators are caught and put behind bars,” she said.
On Tuesday 29 March, two separate armed robberies occurred, including that of a 63-year-old man and his son who were robbed at gunpoint. “We can also confirm that on 29 March, a 36-year- old was robbed with a firearm by unknown males and his wedding ring, cellphone and a jacket were taken.
“In a separate incident, a 63-year-old man and his son were also robbed while walking in Boyes Drive. Three unknown male suspects demanded their belongings after pointing a gun at them. A cellphone, back pack, cap and water bottle were taken. “On 26 March, a 22-year-old was also robbed with a firearm in the same road which makes it three cases reported over the weekend.”
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators is urged to contact Muizenberg police on 021 787 9000.
Meanwhile on social media, some residents recounted close encounters of attempted muggings they experienced on Boyes Drive.
Taryn Ella Alcock wrote that she narrowly escaped an attempted mugging by a gunman dressed in black.
“On Saturday morning I also escaped an attempted mugging on Boyes Drive. I should not have been running on my own, but luckily managed to take a wide berth, scream and run away.”
In a separate incident, Taryn Dreyer wrote that she also had a close call.
“We had a close call there a few weeks back, got chased down the mountain by a few men. Luckily they couldn’t catch up with us before we got into the car.”
Michel Lüchinger questioned why there were no securities patrolling in an area which is well known for muggings.
“Why is there no security or police patrol? Not the first time!”
Glendyr du Preez wrote that the recent muggings occurred at the entrance to Pecks Valley, right after the stairs.
“Two men in black with a gun and a knife, one of them with a buff. They took a wedding ring, a phone and two rain jackets.”
