The travelling Book Fair will stop off in Wynberg for the second year running this month, allowing Christian self-publishing authors and creatives an opportunity to share their books and stories.
The event, which will be held on Saturday 30 July at the Methodist Church Hall in Church Street, will be hosted by Belinda Ann Weber and a team of self-publishing authors, together with members of the Wynberg Methodist Church and Reverend Graham Goodie.
With the first Book Fair held last year, Weber says the vision for the event is to see it travel from town to town while sharing art, song, dance, crafts and books with local communities.
“Each stop has its own fragrance and theme. The event also serves as a platform to share information about self -publishing by meeting the authors face-to-face. It is a space for visitors to receive encouragement to start writing their first chapters of their own stories,” says Weber.
The author of Dancin’ Feet and nine other publications grew up in Wynberg. She says it was important for her to include her home town in the fair’s itinerary.
“I lived there for 25 years and began teaching at the age of 21 in the very same hall the Book Fair is being held. Wynberg was where my passion for dance took root and today still goes on as I share this love with others,” she says.
The journal writer and creative, who now lives in Tulbagh, facilitates “Doing Life Together” workshops around topics like “Finding the big dream that is within each one of us”. Her latest publication is called Fresh Oil News Reflections. Her personal photo journals to encourage others to start the journey of journaling will be launched at this year’s fair.
A round dozen authors, artists and crafters will showcase and sell their products at the event. Among these will be author of children’s book Karen van Rensburg (Frankie Builds a Nest); author and creative Diane Carol Edworthy (The Impeccable Golden Thread); author and ambassador of Sela Books co-publisher Julaine Marais (Victorious: Fully Prepared And God gives Us His Armour); and artist Sonja du Plessis who has started writing her story.
In addition, about 15 other authors’ books will be on sale at the Sela table.
Sela is a co-publisher which helps authors to self-publish.
The Book Fair will start at 10:00 and run until 14:00. Two workshop sessions, called Blackout Poetry, will be held by author, poet and artist Diane Carol Edworthy at 11:00 and 13:00 (R25 per person to attend), respectively.
Visitors to the fair will have the opportunity to meet and chat with participating authors on topics such as writing your own stories and self-publishing.
Work by crafters and artists will also be on sale.
Tea and coffee, as well as cupcakes and boerie-rolls will be on sale.
Card facilities will be available.
