  • The Peninsula School Feeding Association’s annual Blisters for Bread fun walk is set for 25 August, with all proceeds going towards feeding children in need.
  • Participants will enjoy a family-friendly event with activities, a live concert, and the satisfaction of supporting a worthy cause.
  • Organisers emphasize safety and community spirit for this year’s walk.

All plans are on track for Peninsula School Feeding Association’s (PSFA) annual Blisters for Bread fun walk on Sunday 25 August and organisers urge participants to make their way to the Green Point Cricket Club early to avoid congestion.

Entries for the event closed at midnight yesterday (Monday).

Each entry enables the Peninsula School Feeding Association to provide 28 learners affected by poverty with a nutritious breakfast and lunch for a day.

Charles Grey, fundraising manager for PSFA, says the event is a celebration of community and the collective effort to combat child hunger. Participants can enjoy a sense of camaraderie and pride in contributing to a worthy cause.

He explains that all participants would receive an SMS confirmation of their participation number within 48 hours before the event.

He adds that the collection of T-shirts at the Sportsmans Warehouse store (which participants have chosen) will take place between 09:00 and 17:00 on Saturday 24 August.

“The organisers are fully prepared to accept the collections of your walk bib numbers and T-shirts if pre-ordered.”

Grey says safety on the day is crucial.

“Wear a hat and put on sunscreen. Please do not leave any valuables in your motorcars. We are busy setting up structures and tents at the Green Point Cricket Club during the forthcoming week.”

Expectations

Grey explains that anticipation is mounting for this year’s race.

“All the plans are on schedule, and we are very excited about this year’s event, which promises to be a great one. We are excited that Premier Alan Winde will be officially starting the 10 km walk and participating in the 5 km walk. He will be joined by the Deputy Mayor of Cape Town, Eddie Andrews.”

According to Grey, walkers can look forward to a range of exciting activities and experiences designed to make the event enjoyable for the whole family while supporting a great cause.

“Every participant will receive a medal and refreshments at the finish line. After the walk, there will be a live concert featuring Jarrad Ricketts. A variety of food and drink options will be available at the Green Point Cricket Club, including healthy snacks, refreshments and indulgent treats for everyone to enjoy after the walk.”

He says there are also some fun things in store for the little ones.

“The event will feature a dedicated area for children with fun activities such as a jumping castle and bull ride. Lucky walker number draws with great prizes up for grabs. There will be plenty of chances to capture memories with photo booths, event photographers, and scenic spots along the route. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media to spread awareness.”

Grey said they are grateful for all their sponsors.
