A structural engineer and a fire safety inspector were onsite in Kenilworth today (Thursday 27 October) to assess and examine the damage caused by a fire that broke out at the Access Park shopping centre late last night.
According to Jermaine Carelse, Cape town Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson, they were alerted to smoke coming from the vicinity of the shopping complex around 23:30 yesterday (Wednesday, October 26).
“Wynberg fire station’s crew was first on the scene where they confirmed a building was on fire and called on more resources to help bring the blaze under control,” says Carelse.
A total of 10 firefighting appliances and crews from various fire stations attended the scene. Battling through the night, firefighters brought the blaze under control just before 05:00.
