Anxiety is mounting in the Southern Cross community as the search continues for “Big lad Quinton”, a well-known and beloved baboon missing since yesterday morning 29 October. Known for staying close to his troop, Quinton’s sudden disappearance has prompted concern among local residents and volunteers, who have taken to social media to share updates and pleas for assistance in finding him.
The Baboon Matters team noted Quinton’s absence yesterday. Their teams spent hours searching the area, but by nightfall they were forced to pause, leaving Quinton’s troop to roost anxiously in De Hel. “The troop is not relaxed at all,” the team shared, as they prepared to continue the search.
Residents expressed deep concern over Quinton’s unusual absence. Lynette Johnson said, “My heart sank reading after reading this on social media Quinton is never without his troop, and I can’t bear thinking that something terrible could have happened to him.” Another resident, Desiree van Nierop, shared heartfelt wishes for his safe return, saying “I pray that he will be found safe and unharmed”
Volunteer teams are now urging anyone able to assist in the search to look along the Diep River Trail, De Hel, and surrounding areas near Bellevue Avenue. They request that any sightings be reported immediately to Bonita on 083 444 4674 or Jennie on 0844139482.
This is a developing story.
