Commuters travelling on the M5 towards Muizenberg were stuck in heavy traffic after the shooting of two prominent gang members last week.
Just before lunchtime on Thursday 6 October, two high-ranking gang members died in a hail of bullets at the intersection of Prince George Drive and Peach Street in Retreat.
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk said two men, aged 33 and 37, were shot dead while four others were injured.
“The motive can be gang-related. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“The docket will be transferred to the Anti-Gang Unit for further investigation,” said van Wyk.

According to police at the scene, the victims were members of the 27s gang on their way home to Kraaifontein after visiting someone at Pollsmoor Prison.
At the time, Grassy Park station commander, Col Dawood Laing, said the alleged gang members were driving in a two-vehicle convoy.
“Prominent gang members who were coming from a visit at Pollsmoor were shot dead.
“Because they were high-ranking gang members, they were travelling in two vehicles.
“When the front vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Peach Street and Prince George Drive, two guys jumped out of a vehicle and fired multiple shots.”
The police retrieved 30 cartridges at the scene.

Laing said that police would be looking at CCTV footage available for more clues.
