Towards the end of last year, the Akasia Avenue Foundation set about collecting fem-care products, including deodorant, sanitary towels and soap, to distribute to schools in the Athlone area.
“We were able to make up fem-care packages and distributed them to Peak View High School, Athlone High School and Bridgetown High,” foundation founder Warren Volkwyn said. “We also were able to gather school shoes, which we were able to distribute to Silverlea Primary School.
“In the same period, we had an outpouring of gently worn clothing and were able to donate these to the Christine Revel Children’s Home. We know things are tough for so many people, and we are truly grateful to all those who have donated and were able to be a blessing to someone else.”
The Foundation, which continuously collects donations, aims to help those in dire need throughout the year.
“We’d like to thank all donors, friends, businesses and individuals for their continued support,” Volkwyn said.
