Having returned from teaching in Kuwait in 2022, Larey Marks has now pursued his dream of owning and operating his own studio, having officially opened last year.
He started teaching in Kuwait in 1996 and now on his return opened the Larey Marks Drama Studio at 22 Crocus Street, Lentegeur.
“I have been in this industry for more than 20 years,” he says. “Ever since I was a child in District Six in the 70’s, I often dreamt of a life on stage, sharing the limelight with the stars. I’ve since shared that dream with hundreds of eager young ones over many years.”
Just starting out means they are actively searching for talented individuals who have an interest in the arts and drama. This is aimed at building a fundraising cast to get the ball rolling, after which admission fees will be discussed and implemented.
“My target is the youth in our community and also the parents of those kids to interact and show interest in what their kids are doing. Also to prevent them from wandering the streets and becoming something or someone in the near future,” he says.
The studio will run a freestyle competition soon, along with two plays already written.
